Southville Junction Rail Road (SJRR)

Welcome to the home page of the SJRR

The Southville Junction Railroad bed and raised stonework were built over 2016. It is intended as a test track, diorama for photos of new built stock, and an exploration of techniques as well as a garden. I have setup this website to enable collaboration between myself and other enthusiasts who are interested in the projects that I am undertaking.

About SJRR

The track bed is level throughout, with raised beds for planting about 60-70cm above ground level. This was done to allow easier gardening without bending, and also to avoid the “helicopter” eye view of ground level lines. The small size of the garden made this easier.

At present PECO track has been laid as a temporary measure, until wooden sleepered hand built track replaces it in the next few years.
However the PECO track allows me to photograph items now, as well as explore ballasting methods, and painting of the rail sides with Humbrol enamel paint.

There is no track power. All locomotives will be battery powered, controlled by radio control. Various systems are under trial.
There is a contact page, please feel free to contact the owner of the Southville Junction Railroad (SJRR) with questions, comments or observations about this website. I would be especially grateful for any observations or experience of installing and maintaining catenary systems outdoors, particularly for making a delicate look.
